Skiing Thursday December 11 - 11:30

It's an opportunistic time for skiing -- if the weather allows get and try and get some k's under your belt. Tomorrow, if the trails stay recommended, I'm going to go for a 30 to 45 minutes ski from P3 in Gatineau. Happy to see anyone who can join me.

Great proposal Jon, I’ve sent you an email to coordinate.

2025 (2024) Cross-country skiing

As we've done in previous years, we'll try and organize some low-key fun cross-country activity in the winter as the weather allows. Any ONEC member (or friend, etc) can join in. I said to the rowing committee that I'd try and organize a weekly outing. I plan to do this during the week, likely Thursday's with a start time of around 9:30 or 10 (after the morning rush). We'll start off with easy trails and I hope build to some longer skis. Mostly it'll be Gatineau Park but may also consider options on this side of the river. Of course, this group chat can be used for others who want to try and pull together a group for cross-country skiing.

So, since I hadn’t been XC skiing since primary school, I decided to just do laps around a nearby park (next to the adult high school between Laurier & Slater). Made my own tracks and went back over them. It was fun! While I didn’t watch this video until afterwards, seems like a good one for beginners!

Update re: “procuring” 😉 XC skis for those interested. Went to Sport Éxchange in Gatineau today (by appointment only for rentals!). You can rent a complete used XC kit (skis, bindings on, boots, poles) for $150 for the season or brand new for $200 (I got new; can’t mix & match new + used; didn’t have used boots in my size). You keep the gear til mid-May, when I’ll have the option to pay $130 on top of my (already paid) rental fee to buy the gear for keeps. Had I bought all the gear today I’d have paid $440; if I choose to keep it in May it’ll have cost me $330.00 total. Their “used” stuff looks brand new (my friend got used; looks indistinguishable from mine save for the tags): clerk said last year’s rentals were barely used cause of unfavourable weather. Pretty great deal for folks wanting…

Thanks for the info Jennifer. I've passed it on to friends who've just moved to Otttawa.
