About the Event
Is this tour for me?
The Tour is intended for healthy active rowers that are able to wet launch in a flowing river. It covers approximately 30 km along the Nottawasaga River, from  Wasaga Beach Area 1 to  Highway 26 at Edenvale. The tour takes 6-7 hours with a lunch stop at the halfway mark. Washrooms are available at the lunch stop, but not during the rowing sections.Â
Participants must be competent rowers able to scull for 3-4 hours at a time without stopping. Depending on water levels, participants may be required to exit the boat in shallow swift flowing water and push boat upstream. This tour is not suitable for beginners or those learning to row. Participants that are not strong swimmers are required to wear a life jacket. Participants are required to help assemble (rig) and disassemble  (derig) the boats before and after the Tour.Â
This typically takes 30-60 minutes each. Volunteers are needed to drive participants back to the start as well as to help ferry vehicles to the finish. Stronger rowers will also be selected as boat captains. Stable touring shells (coxed quads) will be used for the tour. Each of these shells require four rowers and one coxswain. Participants will take turns as rowers and coxies. The initial section of the tour occurs in a boat channel frequented by recreational boat traffic and can be quite wavey. By traversing this section in the morning we hope to avoid some traffic.
