C2 January Challenge

Good day all:

ONECparticipated last year in the C2 January Erg Challenge and did a tremendous job with a total 2,583,556 km.  Are you up to the challenge for 2025?  Please let Alistair know at ahensler@bell.net.   If you know other rowers who may want participate, new bodies are welcome.

As in past years advise Alistair, in confidence, the number of meters that you personally would expect to achieve.  He will calculate the total and that number will become the team’s goal.  Last year our goal was 2,404,000 meters which we managed to surpass.  The challenge is an excellent way to maintain rowing skills in the off-season.  Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi y’all! I miss you & the river. This is super random but…I’ve started learning Finnish (I hope to be in Finland for 3-6 months in 2026/27). My initial interest in Finland had nothing to do with rowing but, turns out it’s (apparently) a fantastic place for the sport! If anyone either (a) speaks Finnish already, or (b) has an interest in learning, drop me a line! I’d love someone to practice with (I’m currently learning via the Duo Lingo app). Who knows, maybe there’ll be a group rowing trip to Finland in our futures some day…😉 (Now THAT could make for excellent icicle chase training!)

Finland would also be an excellent place for cross-country skiing!!

Yoga for Rowers

Yoga teaches balance, strength and flexibility. Things we all need.

Here are a few yoga postures that can help with each part of the stroke.

Ps. I am not a yoga instructor. There are great videos online showing the correct ways to get into each posture.

Core up work out

Here is a workout for everything core. I have kept this one under wraps as it is demanding.

You can do the whole workout and hate me later or choose the exercises you can do and keep at them. Find something and stick with it!

Remember, a strong core means better rowing.

These are Roger's thoughts on core conditioning.
