Ever since reading ”A Most Beautiful Thing“ (one of the greatest and most important rowing stories of recent times), I’ve been fascinated with rowing in Chicago. The book tells the story of Arshay Cooper and the challenges he faced growing up as a young black male in the rough neighbourhoods of west Chicago during the 90s. Things take a twist when he unexpectedly stubbles into the world of rowing, and profoundly changes the sport forever.
For the past few years, I’ve been keeping my eye on the Chicago half and full marathon that winds its way through the heart of downtown Chicago. A perfect event for ONEC, whose primary focus is on distance tours, regattas and marathons (go CSM!). The event is hosted by the Lincoln Park Boat Club - the same club where Arshay Cooper‘s story unfolded (see a photo of the original boathouse below).
Usually, attending is just a passing thought, because it happens to run the same weekend as Burnstown…. But this year, with Burnstown moving one week later it could be a possibility.
The event allows all boat types, including our new Quad. The event is held on the weekend of Sept 9th.
If anyone is interested in a half marathon in the quad, or a double let me know and we can touch base with our Head Coach - Norma, to discuss further. Additional details on Regatta Central or by visiting Lincoln Park Boat Club’s website.

I think that this would be a great idea for 2024! We all needs something to look forward to!
