Rowing Day Camps (with SUP)
Beginner and Intermediate, Kids aged 11 to 17
This summer get your child out on the water at an Ottawa New Edinburgh (ONEC) Rowing Summer Day Camps (with Stand-up Paddleboarding)!
Kids will have fun learning a new sport (or improve on the skills learned last year), discover the amazing Ottawa River, and make new friends! Day campers are taught by trained coaches. Both programs provide achievement certificates.
For rowing and kayaking, ONEC generally accepts a maximum of 20 campers at a time, so reserve your child’s spot now!
ONEC day camps are offered from July to August. Register your child for a full week, two full weeks or more.
Pre-requisite: Ability to swim 50m unassisted

The Clubhouse
ONEC’s central hub is the tennis pavilion, which is located on Tennis Crescent, south of the parkway. Rowing campers are dropped off at the "Tennis Circle" on Tennis Crescent, next to the parking lot.
The Clubhouse has washrooms with showers inside, along with a small canteen for lunchtime treats. Outside is a grassy yard with picnic tables.
Wrapping around the pavilion are the tennis courts, and across the road is the beautiful boathouse where sailing kayaking and rowing camps take place. Unfortunately, the Boathouse will not be in use this Summer 2023 as it remains under construction. However, all water-sport camps will take place from the shore, east of the Boathouse.
Rowing Camp Programming
-
Participants learn sculling is rowing with two oars. Scullers move quickly on the water. This is a symmetrical fitness sport which can be practised for life.
-
Learn to scull (LTS) teaches basic skills of stroke technique, boat handling, water safety, and balance. LTS uses Row Canada’s Journey 1 and Journey 2 (supplemented by the new Row Ontario ROAD program). Journey 1 takes about two weeks in the mornings, while Journey 2 normally takes an additional two weeks of mornings.
-
You are taught in small boats as recommended by Rowing Canada Aviron.
-
The week will end with a Friday fun excursion, e.g. Rideau Falls or Kettle Island, in a coxed quad, weather permitting.
-
Participants who achieve all the rowing skills will receive certificates at the end of day camps.
-
Rowing program campers also participate in Stand-up Paddleboarding activities.
SUP Programming
-
Participants of the Rowing camps also have the chance to learn basic skills and have fun on Stand-up Paddleboards (SUPs). Campers improve their balance and coordination while developing the strokes and playing camp games.
